About

Hi there, my name is Gunnar Stødle. I am a carpenter, maker, and bitcoiner from Norway. I have always loved working with my hands and spending time outdoors.

At work as a carpenter my everyday carry consist of a hammer, a pencil, a 2 meter, a chisel ground wrecking knife, a utility knife and some drill bits. These are the basic tools of the trade I always carry.

A lot of people working the trades here in Norway carry a Scandigrind fixed blade knife in addition to their replaceable blade utility knife. A good replaceable blade utility knife is a indispensable tool of the trade, but I wanted the option of carrying a Scandigrind folding knife with a similar blade shape.

So back in the summer of 2024 I started looking for a folding knife with a utility style blade and came across quite a lot of drop point and Wharncliffe style knives. Over the course of a few months I bought and tested many of these knives. However, I was generally not happy with the grinds, shape and ergonomics of what I found so I decided to make my own.

Drawing inspiration from the blade shape of my utility knife and my experience as a carpenter I designed the Cyberita Scandigrind folding knife. The initial design was made on paper. When I was happy with the profile I made a fixed blade prototype and a mock up folder to see how it will work. When I found my design viable for a folder I had it made into a working CAD model and a real working prototype.

I think The Cyberita Scandigrind has a great overall design, blade shape, size, and edge geometry. However, Flattgrind and Sabregrind knives can be great in situations where more of a slicing or through cut is needed. Its impossible to find a blade geometry and shape that does everything equally well. So I will most certainly offer different alternatives to The Cyberita Scandigrind down the road.

But for woodworking nothing beat a good Scandigrind knife imo. It cut wood like nothing else!

Ruler assisted draw cuts is one of the most common applications of a utility knife as a carpenter. Cyberita knives are also designed with this in mind.

For the first production run I am using a small OEM shop in China. I want to get good quality knives into as many hands as possible so the cost and scale of production is a huge issue for me as a cash strapped one man shop here in Norway. So for now the knives are made in China. However I would love to take the production back home to Norway at some point if I can find a way to make it here for a reasonable price.

My design philosophy is simple. Keep it Simple. This has always been a guiding principle for me when i make stuff. I like to narrow things down to the most basic form and function. A simple strait edge utility style blade and strait handle made sense to me.

The name Cyberita came from the look and feel of the knife and my Nordic roots. The design remind me of the Cybertruck. The utility style blade shape threw me back to the old viking seax, and lend it self well to draw cuts and woodworking. Rita is a old Nordic word for cutting and carving so Cyberita kind of named her self.

Since I love knives and making stuff I will also be offering a few Cyberita custom knives now and then. I wont take custom orders but I will use the Cyberita custom knives series as an outlet for my creative whims.

The Cyberita Scandigrind base model lend it self well to customization. Making different regrinds, finishes and colors, adding jimping, filework, and an extra sets of scale overlays are examples of how it can be easily customized. As an example, here is an easy mod with black foam overlays and a leather lanyard.

The Cyberita Scandigrind base model come with a 75mm long, 24mm wide and 2.5 mm thick blade made out of Alleima® 14C28N blade steel hardened to 59-60 HRC. The Scandigrind edge angle is about 10 degrees pr side.

14c28n is a great tough fine grained stainless steel, perfect for a woodworking knife. Its easy to sharpen and takes a wicked edge. You can read more about the properties of 14c28n here.

The Cyberita Scandigrind blade geometry and shape also make sharpening a breeze. Both the tip and the edge are easy to sharpen thanks to the Scandigrind and the strait angled tip.

The Cyberita folding knives are made to be easy to open and close with one hand. The generous access to the lock bar also ensures easy one hand opening and close wearing thick work gloves.

The profile of the knife only got two primary angles giving it a unique harmonious look and feel where form and function work together.

Every knife sold is timestamped with the bitcoin block height of your order. This subtle nod to bitcoin and the time of purchase is the final touch the knives get before they leave my hands.

I can go on and on about all the details and features of these knives, but out of respect for your time I will stop here.

Try one out, and judge for your self!

Thank you very much for your attention.
